The abortion pill has several other names: RU-486, Missed Period Pill, Medical Abortion, & Chemical Abortion. It’s important that you know the risks involved and potential side effects taking this pill could cause. We also highly suggest that you see a doctor in person—please avoid any telehealth or internet orders.
These are some of the risks associated with the abortion pill:
- Your body may not release all the fetus tissue in the uterus
- Heavy and prolonged bleeding
- Blood clots in the uterus
- Infection
- Fever
- Chills
- Digestive symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea
It’s also important to note if you have any of these conditions listed below please do not attempt to have an abortion.
- If you have an IUD in place
- If you have an ectopic pregnancy (This is when the pregnancy is outside of the uterus. This can be confirmed via ultrasound.)
- If you have certain medical conditions such as: anemia, chronic adrenal failure, severe liver, kidney, and/ or lung disease.
- If you have an allergy to mifepristone or misoprostol
- Current long-term systemic corticosteroid therapy
- Hemodynamic instability (this occurs when blood circulation is not adequately maintaining blood pressure, blood flow, and oxygen delivery to organs)
